The Fomaori, or The Terrible Ones

Yet another of the giant races of Fuerholm, the Fomaori are without a doubt the worst of a bad lot. They are not abundant, since their dispositions are so bad that it is difficult for them to mate, since their natural inclinations lean more toward torture and torment. Their appearance is said to reflect their inner beauty, and they are twisted, scabrous, and deformed. No two fomaori look exactly the same, as skin lesions, wet weeping sores, tumors, half healed wounds, scars and the fomaori characteristic wild tattoos serve to render them distinct. Add in the radical variations in their facial features, their penchant for exotic hair-dos, their haphazard clothing, and their awful deformities and there is little chance of mistaking them.

One distinctive feature they have is their large size, for most fomaori stand at least twenty five feet tall and are hugely fat and bulky for their height. A fomaori is easily twice as heavy as a Mastani, and they are widely acknowledged as the most powerful of the giants in a fight. A fomaori can kill an Aisani like a terrier killing a rat, and the Mastani fare little better. Fortunately for the Mastani and Aisani, even a fomaori can be dragged down by a pack, and for centuries the solitary fomaori sullenly lurked in the dark fringes of the two dominant races.

The fomaori, despite their enormous and misshapen bulks, are astonishingly stealthy. It is truly frightening to relate, but fomaori have been known to creep up on unsuspecting Burrub or Ehvai, despite the skill of those tiny races. The fomaori seemed doomed to live as creepers in the shadows, until the Mastani discovered that the sullen titans could be bought. They are far too dangerous to even think about enslaving, but they are more than willing to work for hire, as the Mastani Fumaroles are very comfortable places to live if you are a fomaori used to squatting in dank squalor alone in a cave.

Having a few of these titanic mercenaries on your side is comforting to the Mastani Thanes, especially when the political infighting among the Mastani gets especially bad. The fomaori live to tremendous ages, and are almost impossible to kill since their vitality is only barely less than the roobrai. According to rumor, there are ancient fomaori hidden in the mountains who still remember the Fall of the Hate! In some ways it is fortunate there are so few of them and they are so unable to cooperate with one another, since if they were more numerous or more capable they would be a great threat to both the Mastani and the Aisani.

To make matters worse, the Fomaori, like the Mastani and the Aesani, gain many strange and eldritch powers as they grow older. For some unknown reason, few Fomaori survive past five or six centuries, but those that do soar in power, becoming more sane and less violent with old age, and growing far more powerful.
