Description

A Quickrunner Surcoat is obviously a very magical and powerful device that fits tight to the wearer's body. It does not increase the wearer's speed in any way, but it is tremendously powerful nonetheless, allowing the wearer to race about and slip past fetters and obstacles as free as the birds in the sky.

The exact appearance is widely variable, ranging from sober, straight-cut pinstripes, to wild flower prints, riotous embroidery, applique, gem-insets, thread-of-gold, woven-rib designs, corduroy, and a thousand others besides, and that leaves aside the potential for colors and truly exotic materials, such as surcoats woven of lightning bolts, congealed mists, celestial dreams, and even more fanciful things.

The owner of a Quickrunner Surcoat must wear the item for 24 hours to attune it to their aura, and until that time has passed, it provides no benefits to the wearer.

Quickrunner Surcoats have the following effects:


  • Quickrunner Surcoat +1: Once per day, the wearer may expend a swift action to gain a move action.
  • Quickrunner Surcoat +2: Once per day, the wearer may expend a free action to gain a move action. This can only be done during the wearer's turn.
  • Quickrunner Surcoat +3: Once per day, the wearer may expend a free action to gain a move action. This can only be done during the wearer's turn. When they do so, they also gain the effects of Freedom of Movement (Spell) until the start of their next turn.
  • Quickrunner Surcoat +4: Once per encounter, the wearer may expend a swift action to gain a move action. In addition, once per day, as part of the same swift action to gain a move action, the wearer gains the effects of Freedom of Movement (Spell) until the start of their next turn.
  • Quickrunner Surcoat +5: Once per encounter, the wearer may expend a swift action to gain a move action. In addition, once per day, as part of the same swift action to gain a move action, the wearer gains the effects of Freedom of Movement (Spell) until the end of the current encounter.
  • Quickrunner Surcoat +6 (Epic): Once per encounter, the wearer may expend a free action to gain a move action. This can only be done during the wearer's turn. In addition, once per day, as part of the same free action to gain a move action, the wearer gains the effects of Freedom of Movement (Spell) until the end of the current encounter.
  • Quickrunner Surcoat +7 (Epic): Once per round, the wearer may expend a swift action to gain a move action. In addition, once per day, as part of the same swift action to gain a move action, the wearer gains the effects of Freedom of Movement (Spell) until the end of the current encounter.
  • Quickrunner Surcoat +8 (Epic): Once per round, the wearer may expend a free action to gain a move action. This can only be done during the wearer's turn. In addition, once per day, as part of the same free action to gain a move action, the wearer gains the effects of Freedom of Movement (Spell) until the end of the current encounter.
  • Quickrunner Surcoat +9 (Epic): Once per round, the wearer may expend a free action to gain a move action. This can only be done during the wearer's turn. In addition, once per encounter, as part of the same free action to gain a move action, the wearer gains the effects of Freedom of Movement (Spell) until the end of the current encounter.


Construction: Creator (Feat), Haste (Spell), or materials imbued with motion and wind, such as sailcloth from a ship's sail that sailed around the world, etc.
