Helm of Protection

Head Slot Item - Abjuration Aura

A Helm of Protection is a simple but profoundly important item for any adventurer who is concerned about enduring hostile attacks. A Helm of Protection protects the wearer automatically and continuously, with no action needed, against sword strikes, arrows, spears, maces, golem fists, troll claws, crocodile fangs, and many, many more besides. A Helm of Protection is massively useful in a serious adventure, and rare is the character who will forgo such an item.

Helms of Protection come in a million different styles and designs, such as sleek mithril skullcaps, lacy tiaras, or sturdy iron-bound hats. Plain or decorative, Helms are all remarkably durable, their protective magics safeguarding them as well as their wearers.

A Helm of Protection offers continual magical protection in the form of a shield bonus to AC, which is applied to the wearer's Armor Class. The amount of shield bonus provided determines its price and caster level. Note that shield bonuses do not stack with any other source of shield bonus, such as a shield; only the higher of the two bonuses may be applied.

The owner of this magic item must wear it continuously for 24 hours to attune it to their aura, and until that time has passed, it provides no benefits to the wearer.
