Rod of Affixment

Rod of Affixment

CL 7 Magic Rod • Weak Abjuration
Cost: 22,500 gp
Weight: 4 lbs.

A rod of affixment is shaped like a stylized, and very elongated, pair of manacles. The surfaces of these manacles are covered in runes and symbols that seem to dimly glow when in the presence of light. The manacle design is not flexible at the center like real manacles, nor do they actually open. Even if they did, they would only fit a pair of very flat, very wide wrists.

Wielders of this rod can utter a command word as a standard action to cast an Dimensional Anchor spell, using up one charge from the rod.

With the command word given, the rod shoots a green beam of eldritch energy at one target creature within 100 feet of the wielder. The wielder must make a Ranged Touch Attack to hit the target as a Ray. Any creature or object struck by the ray is covered with a shimmering emerald field that completely blocks extradimensional travel. Forms of movement barred by a Dimensional Anchor include Astral Projection (Sorcerer/Wizard Spell), Dimension Door (Sorcerer/Wizard Spell), Ethereal Jaunt (Sorcerer/Wizard Spell), Etherealness (Sorcerer/Wizard Spell), Plane Shift (Sorcerer/Wizard Spell), Shadow Walk (Sorcerer/Wizard Spell), Teleport (Sorcerer/Wizard Spell), and similar movement types and/or spell-like abilities. The spell also prevents the use of a Gate (Sorcerer/Wizard Spell) or Teleportation Circle (Sorcerer/Wizard Spell) for the duration of the spell.

A Dimensional Anchor does not interfere with the movement of creatures already in ethereal or astral form when the rod is activated, nor does it block extradimensional perception or attack forms. Also, Dimensional Anchor does not prevent summoned creatures from disappearing when the duration of the spell expires.

Synergy: If a creature affected by this spell is afflicted with another condition before they can remove their current condition, the anchoring energies of the spell are disrupted and instead burst forth in slicing lines of dimensional force. As a result, they suffer an amount of interstice (physical, rare) damage based on the creator level of the rod.

If a targeted creature has spell resistance, the wielder of the rod must first make a Bailiwick skill check against the target's Maneuver Defense. If they equal or exceed this number, the spell is resolved against the target as normal. If the check fails, the spell is cast from the rod (using up a charge) but has no effect on the target creature.

You can purchase this rod at a higher creator level than the minimum required to cast the spell. Doing so increases the potency of the spell as described above, but also increases the cost, as follows:
