Rod of Assistance

CL 1 Magic Rod • Weak Conjuration
Cost: 750 gp
Weight: 2 lbs.

A rod of assistance is made of a shiny metal, heavily polished, with a silver-chrome appearance and hints of bronze in its darker recesses. It is carved into the appearance of a flute, though it is not hollow, and cannot be made to actually play music no matter how much you blow on it.

Wielders of this rod can utter a command word as a standard action to cast an Unseen Servant spell, using up one charge from the rod.

With the command word given, the rod conjures an invisible, mindless, shapeless force that performs simple tasks at your command. This presence can run and fetch things, open unstuck doors, and hold chairs, as well as clean and mend. The servant can perform only one activity at a time, but it repeats the same activity over and over again if told to do so. The unseen servant persists until the end of the wielder's next full night's rest, but is instantly dispelled if the wielder moves more than 60 feet away from it. It can open only normal doors, drawers, lids, and the like. It has an effective Strength score of 2 (so it can lift 20 pounds or drag 100 pounds). It gains +10 lbs of lifting capacity per 10 full creator levels of the rod (dropping fractions; i.e. 30 lbs of lift at 10th, 40 pounds at 20th, and 50 lbs at 30th). Its drag capacity is always five times greater than its lift capacity. It can trigger traps and such, but it can exert only 20 pounds of force, which is not enough to activate certain pressure plates and other devices (subject to GM adjudication). It cannot perform any task that requires a skill check. This servant has a Hover speed of 15 feet, but no other movement types. This Hover speed increases by +15 feet per 10 full creator levels of the rod (dropping fractions; e.g. 30 feet at 10th, 45 feet at 20th, and 60 feet at 30th).

The servant cannot attack in any way; it is never allowed an attack roll. It cannot be killed, but it dissipates if it takes 6 points of damage from area attacks, or a single point of siege damage, such as from a sunder. It gets no saves against attacks. If you attempt to send it beyond 60 feet from yourself (measured from your current position), the servant ceases to exist.

Although this spell does not lay an Arcane Charge, the wielder is limited to only one unseen servant at a time, plus one additional servant (summoned with an additional command word and costing another charge, as normal) per 5 full creator levels of the rod (dropping fractions; e.g. 2 servants at creator level 5, 3 servants at 10, 4 servants at 15, etc., to a maximum of 8 servants at 35).

You can purchase this rod at a higher creator level than the minimum required to cast the spell. Doing so increases the potency of the spell as described above, but also increases the cost, as follows:
