Rod of Shelter

CL 5 Magic Rod • Weak Evocation
Cost: 11,250 gp
Weight: 4 lbs.

This rod is made of dark, well-worn wood. It is square and carved all over with abstract designs that upon examination reveal themselves to be representations of an extremely elongated wooden hut. It is otherwise unremarkable.

Wielders of this rod can utter a command word as a standard action to cast a Tiny Hut spell, using up one charge from the rod.

While on a Material Plane, when you activate this rod, the wielder may create an unmoving, opaque sphere of force of any color you desire around a target space within 30 feet of their space. This sphere is a 9 x 9 x 9 space, centered as desired. Half the sphere projects above the ground, and the lower hemisphere passes through the ground. As many as nine other Medium creatures can fit into the field with the wielder of the rod; they can freely pass into and out of the hut without harming it. However, if the wielder removes themselves from the hut, the spell ends. Otherwise, the spell persists until the end of the wielders next full night's rest.

The temperature inside the hut is always comfortably balmy if cast within a Material Plane. The hut also provides protection against the elements, such as rain, dust, and sandstorms. The hut withstands any wind of less than hurricane force, but a hurricane (75+ mph wind speed) or greater force destroys it.

The interior of the hut is a hemisphere. You can illuminate it dimly upon command or extinguish the light as desired. Although the force field is opaque from the outside, it is transparent from within. Missiles, weapons, and most spell effects can pass through the hut without affecting it, although the occupants cannot be seen from outside the hut (they have total concealment).

Higher level versions of this rod are available, which makes the effect harder to Dispel. Depending upon how hostile your campsite is, this may be very important indeed!

This rod may not be used on any non-Material Plane. A higher level effect is required for such adventurous camp sites.

You can purchase this rod at a higher creator level than the minimum required to cast the spell. Doing so increases the potency of the spell as described above, but also increases the cost, as follows:
