The current Empire is divided into smaller areas of governance known as regions, and further subdivided into provinces. Each province is ruled by an Ordinate, who is appointed by the Emperor and the Imperial Council. The current form of the provinces is one which closely matches the historical model. This means that the borders of many of the provinces are essentially the same as they have been for the life of the Empire. The original reasons for drawing the borders as they currently exist have faded into the mists of time, meaning that in modern terms the borders of the provinces often have little relation to current events. It is a testament to the inertia of the Celegian government that the borders have changed as little as they have.
The provinces south of the Ironback Mountains are generally divided into six main geographic regions, known as the Sea, Southern, Central, Western, Northern, and Eastern provinces. The names of the provinces are as follows:
The Sea Provinces are: Far Estis, Folene, Regel, Drume, Castis, and Brujia.
The Southern Provinces are: Ereta, Istis, and Andania.
The Central Provinces are: Aarn, Cannium, Valis, Gane, Morian, Selena, and Celegia.
The Western Provinces are: Wisten, Yepethe, Tuggston, Pastene, Ruge, Tene*, and Celestia.
The Northern Provinces are Lorne, Fane, Dellen, Gorm, Belle, Invincia, Qed, Hellas, and Faust.
The Eastern Provinces are: Pellania, Frippe, and Tanner.
