This ponderous book contains instruction for persuading and inspiring others, but entwined within the words is a powerful magical effect. If anyone reads this book, they gain a permanent +1 untyped bonus to their Charisma score. Once the book is read, the magic disappears from the pages and it becomes a normal book.
Each of these books contains one volume of a six volume set. Readers of the books must always read each volume in sequential order to gain any benefit. This means that volume 2 of the set is useless to the reader unless they have already read volume 1. However, if a reader manages to obtain all six volumes, they can stack the untyped bonus from each volume in the series to gain a permanent bonus of up to +6. Reading two copies of the same volume, however, does not grant any benefit to the reader.
Unlike many magic items, the cost of each volume must be paid separately. You cannot trade in an earlier volume as a way to reduce the cost of a new volume.
There are no time constraints on how quickly the books must be read, except that it takes 7 full days of reading to complete the book, and each session of reading must consist of a full day. If you spend more than 1 hour doing anything else during a reading day (except meals and short rest breaks) besides reading, that day cannot be counted toward your progress. If a reader decides to take a break between days of reading of a month or a year, they can pick it back up where they left off. Similarly, if the reader spends a year looking for the next book in the series, there is no penalty for this delay other than not being able to read the book and gain its attribute bonus.
This is a consumable item — once it is used, it is expended and cannot be used again.
As a consumable, this item can only be used once. After its effects expire, it provides no further benefit.
