Trespassers Rod

Trespassers Rod

CL 3 Magic Rod • Weak Transmutation
Cost: 4,500 gp
Weight: 4 lbs.

This rod is made of solid steel, typically black, with a prying wedge on one end and a large semicircular bend on the other capped with an aggressive split-wedge. On a casual glance it is easily mistaken for a common crowbar, but a closer look shows it to be seething with magical power. Holding it reveals a nearly subsonic hum, as it trembles with wrecking might.

Wielders of this rod can utter a command word as a standard action to cast a Knock spell, using up one charge from the rod.

When brandished toward a locked door, chest, or other locked, stuck, or barred object up to 2x2 squares in size, within a range of 100 feet, this item allows the wielder to make a Bailiwick skill check as a Disable Device roll to open one of the impediments to opening the target. See the spell description for details.

Yes, it's a magic crowbar that can pry things open from a hundred feet away. To say that these rods are popular among the criminal underground is understating things.

Even better, this rod adds an enhancement bonus to your bailiwick skill, specifically for opening things with the rod, equal to the caster level of the rod divided by five. Thus, at caster level 1-5 the bonus is +1, at level six to ten it is +2, at 11 to 15 it is +3, and levels 15 to 20 it is +4, at levels 21 to 25 it is +5, at levels 26 to 30 it is +6 and at caster levels 31 and higher it is +7.

You can purchase this rod at a higher creator level than the minimum required to cast the spell. Doing so increases the potency of the spell as described above, but also increases the cost, as follows:
