If an adventurer wishes to be well armed, but not carry weapons, there are several options, such as carrying a wand or rod, or some other magic item with a powerful offensive effect. One of the most potent of these items is a simple amulet, the Amulet of Mighty Fists.

Worn around the neck, or pinned to the clothing of the upper torso or neck, an Amulet of Mighty Fists can come in as many appearances as they have effects. They can be humble cloth and iron neck wraps, or incredible works of art inlaid with astral diamonds and fire rubies, in size ranging from large and flashy to small and discrete. Even more amazing is the incredible variety of effects they have. It can be said that no two Amulets have ever done the same thing, and while that is probably an exaggeration, it could very well be true, and these items have a staggering array of powers and effects available.

Each such amulet grants an Enhancement Bonus of between +1 to +9 on attack and damage rolls with unarmed attacks and natural weapons. This is added to the damage done with your unarmed strike. For certain classes which are good at unarmed attacks this is a very potent effect indeed, but for any person, this can be a nice 'ace in the hole'.

In addition, each Amulet allows between +0 to +9 worth of Melee Magic Properties to be applied to those attacks. There are scores of such magic properties, and they can be 'added up' on an Amulet to its maximum allowed effect. This is how Amulets come by their staggering variety of effects.

The most powerful Amulets allow for a total absolute bonus of up to +18, equivalent to normal magic weapons, except that the cost is greater than that of a normal magic weapon (because an Amulet is small, innocuous, and light weight, and applies to both fists if Two-Weapon Fighting is employed), and no dweomermetal may be applied to the amulet (or the wearer's attacks).

If the wearer of an Amulet of Mighty Fists wields a manufactured weapon of any kind, magical or not, the magic of the amulet is temporarily disrupted until the weapon is no longer wielded. In no case can the enhancement bonus or magic properties of the Amulet of Mighty Fists be combined with a weapon other than the wearer's own unarmed attacks and/or natural weapons.

No more than a +5 enhancement bonus may be applied to unarmed strikes via this item prior to level 20, and no more than +5 worth of magic weapon properties (for a total absolute bonus of +10). Once a character reaches level 21, a maximum of +9 enhancement bonus to unarmed strikes, and up to +9 worth of magic weapon properties are possible.

The owner of this magic item must wear it continuously for 24 hours to attune it to their aura, and until that time has passed, it provides no benefits to the wearer.
