Glittering Rod

CL 3 Magic Rod • Weak Enchantment
Cost: 4,500 gp
Weight: 4 lbs.

This rod is a simple cylinder, but its edges and ends are covered in small square mirrors, giving it a dazzling appearance that is, to put it bluntly, fabulous. The edges of the little mirrors aren't the most comfortable thing to hold in a bare hand, but very few cuts occur for all that they feel sharp.

Wielders of this rod can utter a command word as a standard action to cast a Glitterdust spell, using up one charge from the rod.

When the rod is activated, a cloud of golden particles of the purest magic covers everyone and everything in a 25-foot diameter area you choose within 100 feet of your space. This inflicts an amount of light (energy, uncommon) damage based on the caster level of the rod (see table below), as well as causing creatures to become blinded to all visual senses and visibly outlining invisible things until the end of the current encounter, negating all benefits of the invisible state. A WILL save, with a DC based on the caster level of the rod (see table below), halves the damage and negates the blindness, but the effects versus the invisible remain until the end of the encounter unless the charge laid by this spell is overwritten.

All creatures and unattended objects within the area are covered by the dust, which cannot be removed save by Dispel Magic, Disjunction, and similar effects, and of course, it does not function within Anti-magic effects or areas. This dust continues to sparkle until the end of the encounter.

Any creature covered by the dust takes a -10 penalty on Stealth checks.

This spell lays an arcane charge on its target(s). Targets that already have an arcane charge present must choose which to keep if the new spell has the same charge type. Only one arcane charge can ever be present on a target at a time.

You can purchase this rod at a higher creator level than the minimum required to cast the spell. Doing so increases the potency of the spell as described above, but also increases the cost, as follows:
