Collateral Spell [Metamagic]

Prerequisites: Intensified Spell.

Benefit: A collateral spell inflicts only half damage upon creatures it effects. However, an area of effect collateral spell inflicts one Sunder upon every unattended object in the area of effect, or one Sunder per five foot space of walls, floors, ground, etc. A single target Collateral spell (all rays, for example, even if there are multiple rays or missiles per spell), inflicts one Sunder per un-modified level of the spell on each unattended object struck.

If a creature is damaged by a collateral spell and fails its saving throw, it suffers one Sunder upon an item in its possession. If the creature has a Shield it may take the Sunder on that shield, otherwise follow the heirarchy of sunders.

Special: If collateral spell is applied to a spell that already has terrain-based side effects such as igniting flammable objects, it is twice as likely to do so. Any terrain affected by a collateral spell is rendered difficult terrain until repaired.

A collateral spell uses up a spell slot four levels higher than the spell's actual level.
