Explorers report that for every creature in the Prime Material, there exists an analog in the Shaded Place, and many times, there are many different versions of such analogs. Nothing is ever certain in the Plane of Shadow, except that every wonder you witness will be more awful than the last.

There is some evidence that the Shadow Realm is actually many realms, and there may be multiple iterations of Shadow.  There are reports of travelers who enter the Shadow Lands and come back to a Prime Material that they forever feel is slightly different than the one they came from.  Such effects may be seen as permanent alterations of the mind of the traveler, because the alternative, that there are alternate Prime Planes, is almost certainly impossible.
