This ruptured damage applies even if the spell normally does no damage, and even applies if they make a saving throw against the base effects of the spell, as long as there is at least some effect remaining after a save.

Level Increase: +3 (A cutting spell uses up a spell slot three levels higher than the spell's actual level.)
