Distort Spell [Metamagic]

Prerequisites: Selective Spell. Benefit: A distorted spell changes its shape from radius, cone, or line, to one of the other two types.

For every 10 feet of cone length, 10 feet of radius, or 60 feet of line length, the spell can take the shape of one of the other two types with an equal number of distance units. Thus, a 120-foot lightning bolt could become a 20-foot-radius lightning sphere or a 20-foot cone of lightning. This does not affect the spell's range, only its shape. Care must be taken, as use of this feat may place the caster within the distorted area of effect. If a distorted spell produces more than one effect with a valid area of effect in a single casting(such as Meteor Swarm), all must be distorted the same way.

Special: If the modified Area of Effect rules are being used, all spells are defined as squares. In such a case, the area of effect is still a square and is placed normally as per the placement rules, but one five foot space per level of the caster may be placed as the caster wishes, as long as all the squares of the spell are adjacent to one another (corner to corner or edge to edge) and the caster has line of sight and line of effect to all squares. Thus a 'divot' can be taken out of a fireball and a 'bulge' added to other sides. If the caster's level is high enough to distort ALL the five foot spaces in a spell, then only one five foot space must obey the placement rules and then all other squares may be placed as the caster desires.

Yes, this can distort a fifteen foot cone (nine squares) in many very interesting and powerful ways.

A distorted spell uses up a spell slot two levels higher than the spell's actual level.
