Starting Clothes
All adventurers begin play with a free set of sturdy clothing. A full set of clothing weighs 6.3 lbs, but characters may choose to discard or stow some of the clothing as they see fit. Indeed, characters with a charisma of 14 or higher are encouraged to do so! A wide variety of additional clothing is available for those wishing to pack a wardrobe with flair or variety, but that costs extra.

Starting Equipment
When shopping for equipment, many adventurers might want to avoid poring over a giant shopping list of bizarre equipment featuring 15 varieties of wax, just to get on the road. Many adventurers just want a basic kit of stuff that will ensure they have the gear necessary for camping in the wilderness or a dark dungeon. To that end, a basic set of gear is listed here:

So, 12 gold gets you 44 pounds of gear, and you're on your way to a life of monster-home invasion and general bad-assery. Of course, many characters will find a 44-pound backpack to be way too heavy, so for some extra money some items can be substituted out for lighter versions. Some of the substitutions below assume that lay magic items are available to starting characters. Consult your GM to ensure that these items are available in your campaign before purchasing them.
