Knowledge (Logic)
Knowledge (Logic) (Int; Trained Only)
You are educated in the uses of the mind, which allows you to answer both simple and complex questions on that topic. Specifically, Knowledge (Logic) allows you to make checks to reveal information on puzzles, riddles, conundrums, as well as poisons and diseases. Logic can also be used to attempt to predict the behavior of a mindless creature.
Check
Answering a question on a Logic topic has a DC of 10 (for really easy questions), 15 (for basic questions), or 20 to 30 (for really tough questions).
While the Knowledge (Logic) skill cannot be used to learn the lore of creatures, it can be used to predict the "programming" of mindless creatures, such as constructs, vermin, oozes and some undead. In these cases, the DC of the check equals 10 + the monster's CR. A successful check allows you to predict how the creature will react to its current circumstances (typically, this information is listed in the "Combat Tactics" section of the creature's bestiary entry).
Task | Skill DC |
---|---|
Solve a simple riddle or puzzle | 10 + campaign level |
Identify poisons or diseases affecting a friendly creature | save DC of the poison or disease |
Solve a complex riddle or puzzle | 20 + campaign level |
Action
One full round. See also “Untrained,” below.
Try Again
Yes, but it typically takes 1 hour per retry, as the logician bulls through the problem meticulously. Everything can be solved eventually, but some things take a while.
Special
You cannot make an untrained Knowledge check with a DC higher than 10. If you have access to an extensive library that covers a specific skill, this limit is removed. The time to make checks using a library, however, increases to 1d4 hours. Particularly complete libraries might even grant a bonus on Knowledge checks in the fields that they cover.
