| Item-Abilities| When the command word is spoken, this rod creates the visual Illusion of an object, creature, or force, as visualized by you. This illusion appears within a single 10 foot square which must be within 200 feet of the wielders space, to which they must have line of sight and line of effect. The size of the area affected by the illusion can be increased by buying the rod with a higher creator level, and thus, at creator levels 7 through 13 the illusion can fill or operate within 2 10-foot cubes, at levels 14 through 20 it grows to three such ten foot cubes, at levels 21 through 27 it is four cubes, at levels 28 through 34 it is five cubes, and at creator level 35 it becomes six ten-foot cubes. These cubes must all be adjacent to each other, and can be otherwise arranged as the wielder wishes.
| Item-Abilities| When this rod is activated, it creates a visual illusion of an object, creature, or force, as imagined by the wielder, up to a 10-foot cube in size (a 2x2x2 square space) within 200 feet of the wielder's space. The maximum size of the illusion increases by an additional 5 feet per 10 full creator levels of the rod (dropping fractions; i.e. a 15-foot cube at creator level 10, a 20-foot cube at creator level 20, and a 30-foot cube at creator level 30). The illusion is visual only, and cannot include sounds, smells, textures, and temperature-changing effects. The illusion persists until the end of the current encounter, the end of the next encounter, the start of the wielder's next full night's rest, or until discharged into a deceived target (see below), whichever occurs first.

All creatures viewing the illusion are allowed a Will saving throw against a DC as defined below to pierce the illusion.
The wielder may expend a move action to move the image within the confines of its maximum space, in order to make the image appear to react to any nearby creatures, if they wish.

The illusion does not create sound, smell, texture, or temperature. You can move the image within the limits of the size of the effect. This may not be used to create images of terrain, such as a hill or wall or empty detailed room, nor can it be used to image massed piles of smaller objects. It can be used to create the image of a single monster, such as a single Orc or even a Bullette, if the rod is high enough level to create such a massive beast. It can be used to make an image of a table, or a chest, or even a window, but if used to image a window it cannot be seen through.
Nothing created by the rod's effect can be used for cover or concealment of any sort. The illusion cannot be terrain, such as a hill or wall. It cannot make a filled room appear empty, nor can it be used to create the image of massed piles of smaller objects. It can only create the illusion of a single object, such as a monster, a treasure chest, a fountain, or even a window. If used to create the image of a window (or some similar image), it only looks out onto an illusion — it does not create a transparent effect that allows a viewer to see what is actually beyond the illusion.

Nothing created by Silent Image can be used for cover or concealment of any sort. Interacting with Silent Image with any sense other than plain sight allows a saving throw as described above to notice the eerie silence of that raging Bullette, or the fact that the bonfire burning in the front hallway isn't hot.
Interacting with the illusion directly allows a saving throw based on the creator level of the rod to notice that the illusion isn't real, but only if using a non-visual sense. Note that Darkvision and Low-Light Vision are also not able to penetrate the illusion, since they are just improved versions of normal vision, seeing in the normal spectrums of light and darkness. Anyone noticing the lack of sound, smell, taste, texture, or changes to temperature (if a real version of the illusion would normally produce such things) can make a saving throw to disbelieve the illusion. Those who succeed on the saving throw can perceive the reality of their surroundings as well as the illusion, but they know the illusion for the fake that it is. Those who fail are duped into believing the illusion is real.

The Silent Image effect of this rod lays an arcane charge on the wielder of the rod while it is sustained, but that charge specifically overlaps (and stacks with) Ghost Sound (Sorcerer/Wizard Spell). If a caster already carrying a charge from one of these spells casts the other, the two charges blend and merge, sharing the same charge. The illusion from this rod will last until at most the end of the next encounter that accurs within sight of the image, or a full night's rest, whichever comes first.
This rod's spell effect lays an arcane charge on the wielder while the illusion remains in effect. If the wielder already has an arcane charge present, they must choose which effect they wish to maintain. Only one arcane charge can ever be present on a target at a time.

Limner's Rod

Limner's Rod

CL 1 Magic Rod • Weak Illusion
Cost: 750 gp
Weight: 4 lbs.

This rod looks like a heavy sculpted painter's brush, greatly oversized, topped with short, aggressive bristles. When activated, the rod sways in the hand and the bristles run with gleams and sparks of every color, as the rod paints your illusion over reality as you direct it.

Wielders of this rod can utter a command word as a standard action to cast a Silent Image spell, using up one charge from the rod.

When this rod is activated, it creates a visual illusion of an object, creature, or force, as imagined by the wielder, up to a 10-foot cube in size (a 2x2x2 square space) within 200 feet of the wielder's space.

The wielder may expend a move action to move the image within the confines of its maximum space, in order to make the image appear to react to any nearby creatures, if they wish.

This rod's spell effect lays an arcane charge on the wielder while the illusion remains in effect. If the wielder already has an arcane charge present, they must choose which effect they wish to maintain. Only one arcane charge can ever be present on a target at a time.

You can purchase this rod at a higher creator level than the minimum required to cast the spell. Doing so increases the potency of the spell as described above, but also increases the cost, as follows:
