Pearl of Power

Neck - Enchantment Aura

A Pearl of Power is a piece of innocent neckware, an amulet on a chain, which can be of any appearance, from plain to ornate, from flimsy to massive. All Pearls, however, always feature at least one large, iridescent pearl, of great beauty, as a prominent element of their design.

When worn, a Pearl of Power does not seem to have any effect, but in truth, a Pearl of Power is a strange thing, with weird and ineffable abilities...for those who can natively cast spells.

What makes a Pearl such a strange item is the fact that the type of spell doesn't matter. Whether the source of the power is Divine or Arcane, the Pearl always functions. Scholars and ciphers and sages theorize that a pearl works directly on the aura, but in truth, no one really knows how they work. The simple fact is, they do work.

If worn by a native spell caster, one who gain spells from their class advancement, a Pearl of Power adds one spell of the level indicated in its name, and in all lower level spell levels. The wearer must already be powerful enough to cast a spell of the affected levels due to their level of advancement, and as such, paladins must have a sufficiently high caster stat to use a pearl as early as possible. Spells gained from any other source than class advancement or high ability scores do not trigger a Pearl of Power.

The spell slot granted by a Pearl of Power must be filled as is normal for the caster's other spell slots, and may be used to cast spells, for mana burning, or any other use of a spell slot.

The owner of this magic item must wear it continuously for 24 hours to attune it to their aura, and until that time has passed, it provides no benefits to the wearer.
