Psychic damage is damage directed at the target's mind, and more specifically, their sanity or perception of reality (assuming there is any meaningful difference). Psychic damage is therefore useless against mindless creatures. Psychic damage is exceedingly difficult to resist, since there are few methods of preparing yourself for it.
