Ring of Protection

Rings Slot Item - Abjuration Aura

A ring of protection is a simple but profoundly important item for any adventurer who is concerned about weathering attacks. A ring of protection protects the wearer automatically and continuously, with no action needed, against sword strikes, arrows, spears, maces, golem fists, troll claws, crocodile fangs, and many, many more besides. A ring of protection is almost a badge of entry to serious adventure, and rare is the character who will forgo such an item.

Rings of protection come in a million different styles and designs, such as a classy platinum band inset with a strip of laminated leather running its circumference, which has been treated with cuprium, all the way up to a florid three-segment full-finger sheathe with baroque carvings and inlaid gemstones. All rings of protection are well made and very durable, no matter how fragile they may look, as the protective magic within them reinforces them against harm as thoroughly as they reinforce their wearer.

A ring of protection offers continual magical protection in the form of a shield bonus to AC, which is applied to the wearer's Armor Class. The amount of shield bonus provided determines its price and caster level. Note that shield bonuses do not stack with any other source of shield bonus, such as a shield; only the higher of the two bonuses may be applied.

The owner of this magic item must wear it continuously for 24 hours to attune it to their aura, and until that time has passed, it provides no benefits to the wearer.
