Rod of Swapping

Rod of Swapping

CL 3 Magic Rod • Weak Conjuration
Cost: 4,500 gp
Weight: 4 lbs.

This rod is made of a light silvery metal, with a comically oversized pry-hook at one end. It is surprisingly light for its size, and seems almost transparent if you catch a glimpse of it from the corner of an eye.

Wielders of this rod can utter a command word as a standard action to cast a Juxtaposition spell, using up one charge from the rod.

When the wielder pronounces the command word, they savagely 'hook' an enemy creature within 30 feet of their space to whom they have line of sight and line of effect. Then, with a powerful gesture, they use the rod to "pull" that creature toward their space.

If this rod is successfully activated, the target is allowed to make a Willpower save against a DC based on the creator level of the rod as shown below. If it fails this save, the wielder and the target switch spaces via a teleport of them both. If the target is too large to fit into the space the wielder vacates, the rod fails to move the creature, and instead the wielder is teleported adjacent to it in the closest unblocked, unoccupied space. If there is no available space for the wielder to fill, then the rod fails completely and the charge is expended to no effect.

If the target makes its saving throw, then it is treated as if there was no space to teleport it to. It remains in its space and the rod wielder is teleported adjacent to its space in the closest unblocked, unoccupied space. If there is no such adjacent space, then the rod does nothing.

If a targeted creature has spell resistance, the wielder of the rod must first make a Bailiwick skill check against the target's Maneuver Defense. If they equal or exceed this number, the spell is resolved against the target as normal. If the check fails, the spell is cast from the rod (using up a charge) but has no effect on the target creature.

You can purchase this rod at a higher creator level than the minimum required to cast the spell. Doing so increases the potency of the spell as described above, but also increases the cost, as follows:
