Victory Laurel +3

CL 13 Headband Slot Item • Moderate Necromancy
Cost: 22,750 gp
Weight: 1 lbs.
Family: Victory Laurel

A Victory Laurel is won by winners. This item appears to be a chaplet, or wreath, of some sort of plant. It may look like a lush assemblage of magnolia blossoms, an extravagant outburst of mountain holly, a restrained band of juniper twigs, or even a dry, sere assemblage of vines and thistles. Regardless of their appearance, all such items work the same way.

Out of battle, they seem to do nothing. Even in battle, they add no benefit to the wearer, unless they vanquish a foe in fair, open battle. If an attuned wearer of a Victory Laurel uses a weapon (not a Rod, Wand, Staff, or Instrument) to inflict upon a given foe their Bloodied value in damage or more, OR, they administer the killing blow to an active foe (Coup de Grace does not count), then the ineffable power of the Victory Laurel activates.

After a combat in which the wearer meets the requirements above, the Laurel sprouts with one or more Victory Berries. These blood-red fruits have no immediate effect, and once a Victory Laurel has bloomed, any berries remain fresh and ready to use upon the Laurel for up to a full moon. When picked, they must be used immediately. While it has any fruits on it, the Laurel will not sprout any new ones, until the wearer enters a combat with the Laurel completely bare.

Out of combat, the wearer of the Laurel may pick the fruits and eat them, or gift them. Each Berry provides a day's worth of food and water for up to a size Medium creature. Four Berries are a day's food for a size Large creature, sixteen berries for a size Huge, etc. Berries must be consumed immediately after they are picked, or they lose their magic and become worthless. Note that the wearer of the Laurel may pick the Berries and immediately give them to an ally for them to consume.

In addition to the wonderful value as foodstuffs, each Victory Berry heals the eater for one or more hit points per Berry consumed. This is a source of instantaneous healing for purposes of triggering effects activated by instantaneous healing. If the wearer of the Victory Laurel has an item or ability that improves instantaneous healing effects, that item only affects Berries they eat themselves. However, if a character who receives the Victory Berry(ies) has such an item, then it affects the Berry(ies) they received as normal.

A Victory Laurel +3, when used in battle with the conditions satisfied as above, grows three Victory Berries if empty and an enemy is properly defeated. Out of combat, these can be used as food or a source of healing. Each Victory Berry used this way heals 4 hit points of damage.

The owner of this magic item must wear it continuously for 24 hours to attune it to their aura, and until that time has passed, it provides no benefits to the wearer.

Creation: Creator (Feat), Bailiwick Check (DC 36 (10 + double CL)), Pale (tier 2) remnant, An item symbolic of the enchantment, 11,375 gp (minus cost of symbolic item).
