Defy Death (Ex)

Requires: Barbarian 1
Benefit: Once per round as a free action, you may activate Defy Death. The next attack made against you, assuming it occurs before the start of your next turn, deals only half damage. Damage reduced by Defy Death is reduced before any other sources of damage reduction (such as DR) are applied. If the attack deals any non-damaging effects, such as inflicting status conditions, Defy Death does not prevent these effects.

Progression:

  • 11th Level: If the first attack made against you while Defy Death is active grants a saving throw, you gain a +2 rage bonus to that saving throw.
  • 21st Level: If the first attack made against you while Defy Death is active grants a saving throw, you gain a +5 rage bonus to that saving throw (instead of +2).
  • 31st Level: You take no damage at all from an attack mitigated by Defy Death. Non-damaging effects from the attack are still resolved against you as though the attack hit.
