Condition Severity: Weak

An enemy has grabbed one of your arms, in an attempt to initiate a grapple with you.

Effects

  • A Grabbed condition is the weakest outcome of a successful Grapple combat maneuver against an enemy.
  • If you are the creature who has been Grabbed:
  • You may make attacks with a 1-handed weapon or cast spells normally.
  • Attacks with a 2-handed weapon suffer a -4 penalty to hit, since one of your arms is unavailable.
  • You cannot make any attacks with an off-hand weapon (i.e. two-weapon fighting).
  • Thrown and projectile attacks you make will provoke attacks of opportunity from all enemy creatures that threaten you (since you are engaged in melee).
  • You cannot make attacks of opportunity, except against the creature that initiated the Grabbed condition against you (if it provokes).
  • If you wish to move from your space, you must first succeed on an opposed Might skill check. If you succeed, you may move up to half your speed, and the enemy which grabbed you may elect to follow with you as a free action. If you fail the check, you cannot move, and your move action is wasted.
  • You take a -2 penalty to your AC.
  • You cannot use Stealth to hide from the creature Grabbing you, even if you have an ability such as "Hide in Plain Sight".
  • If you become invisible, you gain a +2 bonus to your CMB for purposes of escaping the Grabbed condition, but receive no other benefits.
  • If you are the creature who initiated the Grabbed condition:
  • You may spend a free action during your turn to immediately end a Grabbed condition that you initiated.
  • If you wish to move from your space, you must first succeed on an opposed Might skill check. If you succeed, you may move up to half your speed, dragging your Grabbed victim along with you. If you fail the check, you cannot move, and your move action is wasted.
  • You may spend a standard action to make a new Grapple check (rolling 1d20 + your CMB), with a DC equal to the CMD of the creature you have Grabbed. If you are successful, you escalate the Grabbed condition to the Grappled condition, and deal your combat maneuver damage to your target. If you fail this check, your victim is still Grabbed by you.
  • You take a -2 penalty to your AC.

Ended By

If the ability, trap, or effect description includes specific directions for how the condition is ended, then that is the primary means of ending this condition. In many cases, it is the only way to end the condition. If nothing is specifically listed for ending the condition, then the following methods can be used to end it, instead:

  • You can spend a move action to attempt an Escape Artist check, with a DC equal to the CMD of the creature that Grabbed you. If you are successful, the Grabbed condition immediately ends.
  • You can spend a standard action to attempt a Grapple check (rolling 1d20 + your CMB), with a DC equal to the CMD of the creature that Grabbed you. If you are successful, the Grabbed condition immediately ends.
  • If you wish to inflict the Grabbed condition back on the enemy grappling you, you must first completely escape from the enemy grappling you. You cannot initiate a grapple when you are already grappled.
  • The Grabbed condition automatically ends if the creature which Grabbed you is slain.
  • If not cleared, the Grabbed condition automatically ends at the end of the encounter.
