Condition Severity: Moderate

You are being wrestled to the ground by an opponent.

Effects

  • The grappled condition is the intermediate outcome of the Grapple combat maneuver.
  • While grappled, you may not attack any creature other than the one grappling you.
  • You may not make attacks using two-handed weapons, ranged weapons, or off-hand weapons.
  • If you wish to cast a spell, you must make a Concentration check with a -4 penalty, against a DC equal to the grappling creature's Maneuver Defense, or else the spell fails. If successful, your spell must target the creature grappling you, or include it as a target.
  • Spells that have no somatic component, or that have a range of touch (spells with a range of "ranged touch" do not count) must still succeed on the above concentration check, but do not suffer the -4 penalty. If successful, your spell must target the creature grappling you, or include it as a target.
  • All of your movement speeds are halved, but you can still perform 5-foot steps. You may not pass through any areas that the grappling creature cannot fit without squeezing. Any movement other than Teleport or Forced Movement allows the grappling creature to follow you to a space adjacent to the space in which you end your movement, as a free action, if they wish. If they choose to move with you, they must move the fewest squares possible to end up adjacent to you, but can otherwise choose which adjacent space they end up in. The grabbing creature's movement is considered forced movement and does not provoke attacks of opportunity.

Ended By

If the ability, trap, or effect description includes specific directions for how the condition is ended, then that is the primary means of ending this condition. In many cases, it is the only way to end the condition. If nothing is specifically listed for ending the condition, then the following methods can be used to end it, instead:

  • The grappled condition automatically ends at the start of the grappling creature's next turn.
