Rod of Baleful Sparks

CL 7 Magic Rod • Weak Illusion
Cost: 22,500 gp
Weight: 4 lbs.

A rod of baleful sparks is a heavily polished metal rod, of very simple appearance. It is approximately 2" in diameter and evenly cylindrical from end to end. It has no endcaps, carvings, or other decorations. The only things that stand about about its design are its vibrant cobalt blue color, and the fact that it quietly hums at all times. When held in the hand, the faintest of vibrations can be felt, as though the rod is eager to be used.

Wielders of this rod can utter a command word as a standard action to cast an Wandering Star Motes spell, using up one charge from the rod.

When this rod is activated, it produces a cloud of glittering dust that speeds toward a target creature. One additional target creature can be targeted per 15 creator levels of the rod (dropping fractions; i.e. 2 targets at creator level 15, and 3 targets at creator level 30), but all targets must be within 30 feet of the wielder's space, and within 30 feet of each other. The gentle magic called forth by the rod creates sparkling motes of bright light that shoot toward the target(s) and swirl around them in a complex pattern. The pattern clearly outlines the target and radiates light as if it were a Sunrod, negating any concealment (partial or total) for the target and making Stealth skill checks impossible.

In addition, each target must make a Will saving throw, with a DC based on the creator level of the rod (see below), or suffer an amount of stellar (energy, rare) based on the creator level of the rod (see below), as the radiance of the sparkling motes etches their form, and they are dazzled until the start of the wielder's next turn. If a target succeeds on their save, they suffer only half damage and are not dazzled.

If a targeted creature has spell resistance, the wielder of the rod must first make a Bailiwick skill check against the target's Maneuver Defense. If they equal or exceed this number, the spell is resolved against the target as normal. If the check fails, the spell is cast from the rod (using up a charge) but has no effect on the target creature.

You can purchase this rod at a higher creator level than the minimum required to cast the spell. Doing so increases the potency of the spell as described above, but also increases the cost, as follows:
