Description

Upon completion of the urgent, commanding phrases of this spell, you summon a single creature from a nearby Lateral Material Plane which is obedient and loyal to you and you alone.
The Summon Monster II spell conjures a creature whose Hit Dice are equal to or less than your caster level +1, with the caveat that its Challenge Rating (CR) may never exceed your character level, after factoring in adjustments such as patterns (applied by summoning feats). If the resulting creature's CR would be greater than your character level, it is reduced to a CR equal to your character level.
The appearance of the creature you summon is decided by the summoner (subject to referee approval), and you can be the same, or different, each time you cast the spell. In addition, the special effects of its attacks can be made to match the appearance of the monster, but the damage types (e.g. bludgeoning (physical, common)) inflicted cannot be adjusted without a feat, power, or ability that specifically allows you to do so.
The Summoned Monster appears where you designate within the range of the spell, in an unblocked, unoccupied space sufficient for its size (usually size medium, unless modified by an ability), and acts immediately, sharing your turn in the initiative order. By default, it will attack the enemy creature (hostile to you) nearest to it to the best of its ability, unless directed otherwise. As a free action, you can direct it not to attack, to attack particular enemies, or to perform other actions. If you wish, you may grant one of your actions (Standard, Move, or Swift) to the Summoned Monster to use instead of using it yourself. This can be done to allow a Summoned Monster to move and attack in a single round, or make a full attack, etc.
This spell lays an arcane or divine charge on its target(s), depending on the caster who is casting the spell. If the targets are something other than you or another creature (such as an object or area), the spell lays an arcane or divine charge on you, the caster. Divine casters lay a divine charge, and arcane casters lay an arcane charge. Targets which already have an arcane or divine charge present must choose which to keep if the new spell has the same charge type. Only one arcane charge and one divine charge can ever be present on a target at a time.
NOTE: The charge laid by this spell is laid upon the caster, not upon the summoned monster(s).
