Vorpal is usually applied to slashing or hacking weapons, although the deadly power granted by this property will work on any weapon. There is no need to activate this property, it is always on.
A Vorpal weapon automatically confirms critical threats, removing the need to roll a confirmation roll.

Upon a roll of natural 20 the weapon automatically confirms the critical and delivers a special critical called a Vorpal Strike. A Vorpal Strike cuts off, or attempts to cut off, a major limb of the attacked creature.
A Vorpal weapon deals its full critical damage to any creature it critically hits, even if that creature is normally immune to critical hits.

To simulate this, on a natural 20 confirmed critical, a Vorpal weapon inflicts the Maimed condition in addition to the normal damage of the attackNote that you cannot inflict Maimed more than once on the same creature.
Finally, a Vorpal weapon inflicts the Maimed condition on any creature it critically hits, unless that creature is normally immune to critical hitsCreatures that are normally immune to critical hits instead suffer the Impaired condition.

Even worse, On any confirmed critical a Vorpal weapon inflicts the Crippled condition in addition to the normal damage of the attack.  Note that you cannot inflict Crippled more than once on the same creature.
This property does not stack with the benefit provided by Keen or any other magic property that improves critical threat range, but it does stack with feats, racial traits, spells, and/or class features that expand the critical threat range of a weapon (such as the Improved Critical feat).

If the amount of damage from the critical hit and any damage imposed by the Crippled or Maimed condtion is enough to kill the creature, it is of course killed, and its head was struck off.

Creatures that are immune to critical damage still take normal critical damage on all confirmed criticals from a Vorpal weapon, but they cannot gain the Maimed condition via the Vorpal Strike, or the Crippled condition from normal criticals.

Vorpal (Melee Weapon Magic Property)

Enchant Cost: +9

A Vorpal weapon has been magically enchanted to always strike the weakest point of a foe's body, often resulting in dismembered limbs or even decapitations. This property adds +3 to the critical threat range of a weapon. For example, a Longsword has a normal critical threat range if 19-20. With the 'Vorpal' property, it becomes 16-20. The Vorpal property does not modify the weapon's critical multiplier. There is no need to activate this magic property — it is always on.

A Vorpal weapon automatically confirms critical threats, removing the need to roll a confirmation roll.

A Vorpal weapon deals its full critical damage to any creature it critically hits, even if that creature is normally immune to critical hits.

Finally, a Vorpal weapon inflicts the Maimed condition on any creature it critically hits, unless that creature is normally immune to critical hits. Creatures that are normally immune to critical hits instead suffer the Impaired condition.

This property does not stack with the benefit provided by Keen or any other magic property that improves critical threat range, but it does stack with feats, racial traits, spells, and/or class features that expand the critical threat range of a weapon (such as the Improved Critical feat).

Creation: Creator (Feat), Bailiwick Check (DC 16), a languid remnant (tier 1), and an item symbolic of the enchantment.
